Vehicles in Germany's Town Found Marked with Swastikas in Human Blood, Law Enforcement State

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Officers stated they were contacted by a individual who found a vehicle in Hanau marked with red-colored substance

Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a release.

Law enforcement state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.

The substance had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they added.

Law enforcement then located numerous other marked vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials report preliminary tests show the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.

"There is still no clue as to its origin; authorities are not yet aware of any harm in association with the incident," they added.

Municipal representatives said they were working "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the community for details.

A high-ranking political figure stated the incident made him stunned and had to be addressed promptly.

"This act hits the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he wrote on online, recalling the murder of nine people by a shooter aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
